For centuries, external electrical stimulation has been known to help with pain. The idea of applying this treatment directly to neural structures has only occurred in the past 50 years. As the technology in this field has advanced, the effectiveness and reliability of spinal cord stimulation as an effective pain treatment has become evident. Numerous scientific studies over the past several decades have proven spinal stimulation to be an effective treatment for many conditions which involve severe pain as a result of nerve damage. Conditions which involve arm or leg pain seem to respond the best. Good results have been shown in complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), failed back surgery syndrome with nerve damage, and peripheral neuropathy. Other conditions, such as migraine headache, are currently being researched. The mechanism of spinal cord stimulation is complex, but ultimately results in the pain being "cancelled out" by an electrical current. Best of all, this does not require the use of medications. If conventional pain management methods have failed, have your condition evaluated at Nevada Pain and Spine Specialists and see if spinal stimulation is the right answer for you. Our practice has been utilizing this treatment for nearly 15 years, and has more experience than any other practice in Northern Nevada.
